JXN 200

The JXN Bicentennial brand was born from a yearlong listening process—one that centered the people of Jackson as co-authors of their city’s 200th-year celebration. Rather than approaching the project as a traditional branding assignment, the creative development unfolded more like a collaborative portrait of a place. A diverse focus group, intentionally assembled to reflect the many ages, neighborhoods, cultures, and lived experiences within Jackson, helped shape every major design decision. Their perspectives offered both grounding and direction, ensuring the final identity honored the city’s authenticity rather than imposing a narrative upon it.

From that foundation, the complete visual system was designed to feel bold, grassroots, and unmistakably Jackson. The event logo, color palette, typography, and pattern work drew inspiration from the city’s musical legacy, artistic innovation, and resilient community spirit. Each element was crafted to stand strong on its own while remaining adaptable enough to support the expansive series of events planned throughout the Bicentennial year.

The resulting brand package extended across merchandise, social campaigns, print collateral, stage design, environmental graphics, and neighborhood activations—touching nearly every corner of the city. Large-scale signage greeted residents at parks and public gatherings, while digital assets amplified the celebration across online platforms. The visual identity became a unifying thread that tied together dozens of partners, venues, and community-led events.

More than a design system, the JXN Bicentennial brand served as a visual celebration of Jackson’s past, present, and future—crafted with its people, for its people. Additional details and project highlights can be found at 200jxn.com.

Although developed as its own distinct brand identity, the JXN Bicentennial initiative served as a major companion project that elevated and expanded the reach of the City With Soul work. Created to celebrate Jackson’s 200th year, the Bicentennial branding introduced a standalone visual system that lived alongside the City With Soul identity while working in partnership with it to amplify civic pride, deepen community engagement, and broaden visibility for Jackson’s story.

Through citywide activations, merchandise, digital assets, and large scale environmental graphics, the Bicentennial project helped reinforce the momentum set in motion by City With Soul. It demonstrated how multiple independent brand experiences can work together to strengthen the city’s overarching narrative and its connection to the people it represents.
